4K MHL connection

To make sure my sumitted app (Photo Pointer) is working in 4K setups I bought a Sony Z2 Tablet wich supports MHL 3.0 and a 4K monitor (ASUS PB287Q) which also supports MHL. The connection between the tablet and the monitor is working but only in 1080p. Should this work or is any thing wrong with my cabel or setup?
